Marble block-handling wheel loader

The largest wheel loader in the Hitachi range, the ZW550‑5, has been delivered to Lasa Marmo’s Weißwasser Quarry in the province of South Tyrol in Northern Italy. The block-handling machine is the main wheel loader at the cavernous site – 1,550 metres above sea level – as it lifts the marble extracted from the Jennwand mountain to feed the logistical process.

Extensive tests for hybrid wheel loader

The new Hitachi ZW220HYB‑5 hybrid wheel loader has been tested extensively by customers at quarrying and waste handling sites in Japan. The challenge for future Hitachi wheel loaders is higher performance, reduced fuel consumption and a low cost of ownership. The extremely positive feedback from these tests has helped the development team to successfully fine-tune the innovative machine to meet these demands.

AHS system to be developed and tested

Australia

Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. is to develop an Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) that is scheduled to be delivered to the global mining industry by 2017. The technology will be developed in association with Wenco International Mining Systems Ltd. (a part of Hitachi Construction Machinery since 2009) to ensure high levels of accuracy when tracking machines on site.

New premises for French dealer Cobemat

France

French Hitachi dealer Cobemat has opened a new 15,000m2 facility after an investment of €2 million. The move coincided with the family-run company’s 20th anniversary and a special event was held in March to celebrate. Highlights included guided tours, a special awards ceremony, and a spectacular light show and drum performance in the grounds.

New demolition machine breaks cover

UK

The first Hitachi ZX350LC‑5 high-reach demolition excavator in the UK has dismantled a brewery company’s office block in Wolverhampton. The machine has a 23-metre reach, tilting cab, and guards on the roof and windscreen. Operator Kevin Penny says: “The main benefit is its reliability, followed by the comfortable cab.”

ZX280LC‑5 working on rice farm irrigation

Senegal

A Hitachi ZX280LC‑5 has been delivered to a remote rice farm in the north of Senegal in West Africa. French contractor CASL’s new medium excavator is digging trenches for the irrigation channels that will feed the crops on the site. It is working continuously to make an average of 170 metres of channels every day.

Huge investment in EH1100‑5 dump trucks

Estonia

Leading Baltic energy company Eesti Energia has purchased 11 Hitachi EH1100‑5 rigid dump trucks to work in the Narva quarry, which is involved in the extraction of oil shale. The new dump trucks will haul material on an unusually long route, ranging from three to 15km (from loading to tipping), with slope increases of up to 9%.
