Right on track
A Hitachi customer in Ontario was involved in an intense 72-hour project to install a road underpass beneath a four-track railroad crossing last October. Metric Contracting Services Corporation used a ZX350LC-5 to remove the rail track sections, and several of its other Hitachi models to excavate 8,000m3 of earth.
The company also built concrete pads for the pre-built underpass bridge to slide into place, and completed the backfilling, before the tracks were reinstalled on schedule.
Zaxis-5 models in top 50
Three large Hitachi Zaxis-5 excavators have been named among the top new construction products in 2012 by American trade publication, Equipment Today.
The ZX470LC-5, ZX670LC-5 and ZX870LC-5 were chosen for the Contractors’ Top 50 New Products by the magazine’s readers. Equipment Today serves commercial construction contractors, and reaches 77,000 equipment owners and end users.

Hitachi at Bauma
Bauma 2013 was a huge success for HCME in April. A key focus of the exhibition was on drive technology and tightening international emission standards for construction machinery.
HCME presented a total of 29 models, including several new Zaxis-5 excavators and ZW-5 wheel loaders designed to comply with EU Stage IIIB regulations. For more information, visit www.new5range.com.
Hitachi strikes gold
Several EH4000AC-3 rigid dump trucks and an EX5600-6 ultra-large excavator will be supplied to the largest Turkish gold mine this year.
Tüprag Metal Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret AS ordered the machines to work at the Kişladağ mine. The dump trucks will be run on a trolley assist system and the excavator is an electric-driven model. They will be powered by an electric power line on the site, which will reduce fuel costs considerably.
Another first for Hitachi
The first EX8000-6 backhoe ultra-large mining excavator has been built at the Hitachinaka-Rinko Works factory in Japan.
This is the largest excavator made by Hitachi. There are 15 shovel models currently in operation in coal, oil sands and zinc mines in Canada, and coal mines in Mozambique and Australia. They are renowned for their durability in harsh environments and excellent availability.
New haulage system
Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) Pty Ltd (HCA) has begun trials for automated dump trucks at the Meandu Mine in Queensland.
The EH5000AC-3 will be used to test the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS), which consists of a variety of advanced drive and traffic-control-system components. When these are combined with wireless communications and a fleet management system, the truck loading, haulage and dumping operation will be automated.
