UK-based RM Penny has acquired the country’s first Zaxis-5 high-reach demolition excavator, and put it to the test demolishing a prominent building in England to make way for a new development

RM Penny’s ZX350LC-5 high-reach demolition excavator was used to demolish a four-storey 1960s office block. The building was part of Marston’s PLC, a British pub operator and brewery.

The special application model is manufactured entirely by Hitachi and has an industry-leading reach of 23m for an OEM machine.

The demolition work, which involved the dismantling of steel and concrete beams, was carried out gradually and precisely over a period of ten weeks.

In order to ensure a high level of precision, the ZX350LC-5 often operated in economy mode, and was fitted with crusher and grapple attachments.

Operator Kevin Penny has worked with RM Penny for 35 years and is an experienced user of Hitachi equipment. “Once the door closes, the cab feels like your space,” he says. “And visibility through the extended glass panel in the roof is excellent.”
